Thibault Liger-Belair Hautes-Cotes de Nuits le Clos du Prieure 2018 |
The Hautes Côtes de Nuits Clos de Prieuré comes from limestone and white marl soils that tends to ripen earlier than the others according to Thibault Liger-Belair. It offers a more austere and reserved bouquet at first, but soon opens with attractive red cherry and chalk dust aromas. The palate is energetic and sorbet-fresh on the entry, lively and brisk with a taut line of acidity, with the finish quite reserved in style but very focused and long in the mouth.
Ripe aromas of black cherry, raspberry and smoke, plus a whiff of meat. Creamier and larger-scaled in the mouth than the Corvée de Villy but with good juicy stony lift giving detail to the middle palate. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins that current cut off the fruit. In a distinctly sunny style, but the Corvée de Villy may be longer.
