he beautiful mountainous region of Priorat, 60 miles inland from Barcelona, has since the late 70's become the trendiest region in Spain. Old vines were suddenly turned into explosively rich, powerful wines that wowed the critics, especially in the US. As in Argentina, the secret is the day-night temperature variation.
70% Carignano, 30% Garnacha, both from 100 year old vines on steep, slatey hillsides; matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (but little new oak).
