- Description
urrounded by Bâtard-Montrachet and lying alongside the old road known as the "chemin de Couches", the "Vide Bourse" climat was only classed comparatively recently (1974) as one of the 21 1er cru climats of Chassagne-Montrachet.
History
This is a very old vineyard and the date at which it was planted is unknown. The little evidence we have leads us to think that its planting dates from the very early 1940s.
Terroir
Lying alongside the Bâtard-Montrachet of which it is a continuation, although at a lower level, it has a westerly exposure and the rows are oriented north south instead of following the very gentle slope. The soil is full of small stones which make for good drainage though it is deep enough to supply moisture to the vines in case of drought.
Tasting
This vineyard, the pride of our domaine, is in excellent health and yields very rich wines whose character is reminiscent of Morgeot but needing longer to develop. They are rounder, meaty and have a slightly mineral, but long, finish in the mouth. This wine has its place among the best of the 1er crus. Fabulous after five years, it has a laying-down potential of 15 to 20 years, or even longer, depending on vintage.
