The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet that perhaps does not quite deliver the charm of the Chalumaux at the moment. There is a crushed stone element here, although it lies hidden underneath the white flower and almond scents. The precise, detailed palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity, finely judged acidity and sorbet-like freshness toward the finish.
This is the first wine to display dominatingly firm reduction and it renders the nose unreadable today. Otherwise there is fine volume to the delicious and opulent medium-bodied flavors that exude more obvious minerality on the citrusy, balanced and sneaky long finish.
