DESCRIPTION
The grapes for this wine come from the heart of Montalcino, on 19 acres of family-owned vines situated both on a hill on north side of the city (near Montosoli Zone) and on the southeast side (in the East Zone). The soil on north side is rocky clay, with excellent exposure to the sun and large amount of stones, while the soil on the south side is clay with sandy soil of good drainage. The vineyards trellis system are spurred cordon, with the winemaking following tradition for making superior Brunello. After careful selection of the hand-picked grapes, fermentation takes place with maceration for 25 days, some of the wine in stainless steel and the rest in Slovenian oak vats. The wine then spends 36 months in large Slovenian oak casks.
Forest floor, new leather, ripe black-skinned berry, grilled herb and balsamic aromas all pull together. The firmly structured, youthfully austere palate delivers Marasca cherry, cranberry and pipe tobacco framed in assertive tannins and fresh acidity. Drink after 2023.
