Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 2016 |
Bright yellow. Less relentlessly about fruit than most of the preceding samples, offering aromas of ripe peach, musky hazelnut and fresh herbs. Quite smooth and ripe, even a touch warm, but showing better definition than the other premier crus here today. A more rectilinear wine, finishing with good length. Nicely combines power and elegance.
Young vines. Matured in 23% new oak. Tank sample. Pale straw. Light as air, lots of chewy texture and raciness. Bone dry and rather noble. Minerals and citrus. Dense.
The Combettes offers up a richer nose than the Folatieres, with aromas of pear and preserved lemon mingling with hazelnut and toasted wheat. On the palate the wine is more hulking and four-square, with serious depth, dimension and length.
