Ferrari Fratelli Lunelli
Color Bright straw-yellow with a golden sheen. Bouquet A highly delicate nose of rare intensity, in which the fruity aroma of the varietal and the scent of honey combined with a hint of vanilla and white chocolate, create a perfect harmony of fragrances. Taste Elegant and balanced, with a velvety, rich body; flavors of vanilla, acacia blossoms, honey, and dry hay are combined with flowery scents; all ensuring that the wine has a noble and lingering finish.
Since 1902, the Ferrari estate, now owned by the Lunelli family, has been at the forefront of sparkling wine quality in Italian wine circles. And even while recognizing that the estate has never been a slouch when it comes to delivering excellent wines, I cannot help but state that this year’s lineup of wines is one of the strongest across the board I have the memory of. The Perle Rose is especially good but virtually everything from Ferrari is really outstanding this year. And as if that was not enough, this year the first-ever Giulio Ferrari Rose bubbly was released. - From Trentino: New Releases (Jan 2019) by Ian D’Agata
Giulio Ferrari is made using the traditional metodo Classico. After a hand-harvest in September, the wine undergoes a gentle pressing and first fermentation in tanks. The wine is then bottled and a second fermentation occurs with selected yeasts. The resulting wine is matured for 10 years on the lees, with a gradual turning of the bottle upside-down (remuage). Sediment is removed through disgorgement. The final touch is the addition of the “liqueur de expedition” (a tiny dose of sugar) and selected wines (the recipe for which remains a closely guarded Ferrari secret).
