Domaine Ostertag Gewurztraminer Les Jardins 2016 |
Andre’s Gewürztraminer is opulent and textural and, unlike his other white wines, this has a bit of residual sugar to back up the tropical and honied flavours. Grown on sand and gravel soils, this wine has a strong aromatic profile of rose water and lychee, which moves to more exotic fruit on the palate, with a delicate ginger note on the long finish. It will be a wonderful match for mild Thai dishes or even slightly hotter Korean ones.
Bright pale golden yellow. The smoky, flinty nose offers shockingly subdued apple, fresh citrus and sweet spice aromas. Then very rich, opulent and frankly sweet on the palate, but lovely freshness keeps it light and lively. The finish is long and bright, delivering surprising tannic bite (Ostertag tends to use long extraction times by pressing over 12 hours, which is akin to macerating the must on the skins). Almost addictive in its easy-drinking freshness.
