Domaine des Valanges Saint-Veran 2017 |
This cuvee is a blend of wines made from thirty year-old vines on various slopes in the commune of Davaye in the following climats (vineyard sites): Les Valanges, Les Carettes, Les Terres-Noires, and Les Creches. The vineyards plots face south by south-east and north-east. The terroir is clay-limestone, with a high percentage of fairly lean limestone soil. The vines grow on the middle of the Solutre and Vergisson slopes. With a vine density of 8-10,000 per hectare, yields are about 55-60 hectolitres per hectare.
Wine maker notes
Our Saint-Veran wines have a refined personality and a somewhat more opulent flavour on the palate. Connoisseurs appreciate them because of their complex bouquet of fruit (peach, pear), white flowers, almond, and honey, accompanied by mineral overtones. Our vineyard plots are ideally suited to Chardonnay, producing elegant designer wines that fully reflect the richness of their terroir and vintage character. Noteworthy recent years at our domaine are 1989, 1990, 1995, 1999, 2001 et 2005, all of which produced marvellous wines. To accompany a special event, an outstanding moment, or a celebration, our Saint-Veran cuvees will not disappoint an experience not to be missed!
A pretty wine, assembled from nine different parcels in the commune of Davaye, the 2017 Saint-Veran reveals notes of green apples, lime zest, spring flowers, grapefruit pith and subtle toasted nuts. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, marrying generosity with good cut and chalky grip.
