DESCRIPTION

Cline Cellars Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Cool Climate 2010 WINEMAKER'S NOTES: Bright red fruit characteristics emerge along with deep color, lush body, touches of vanilla and spearmint followed by delicate strawberry flavor. This is a food-friendly wonder child that can stand up to lamb or roast beef yet won’t overpower lighter fish or pasta dishes.

In California, This is a 500,000 acre wine region spanning from San Pablo Bay to the border of Mendocino County. The appellation runs down the coast of the Pacific Ocean and is known for its cool climate and high rainfall. The grapes that produce the best wines from this region are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

This is their excellent version of a “cool climate” Pinot Noir, though “cooler” would be more fitting as it still manages to hit 14.5% abv.  The alcohol level is not apparent when tasting as the wine is so well balanced.  It’s big and powerful, yes, and more Central Otago than Marlborough, but it’s savoury and smooth rather than jammy.
