Chateau Picque Caillou Pessac-Leognan 2014 |
Wine Advocate 90 points - The 2014 Chateau Picque Caillou has a fragrant and well-defined, quite complex bouquet with melted tar and graphite infusing the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity and great harmony. This punches above my expectations, showing much more refinement than previous vintages. This is one to watch-a pretty little thing..March/2017
James Suckling 89 points - This has quite a lot of chocolate and caramel aromas to it, but it tastes surprisingly fresh all things considered. The finish is just a little tart and angular. Give it a year or two to soften..February/2017
Jeb Dunnuck 90 points - From a 50-acre estate in Pessac (it’s actually inside the Bordeaux city limits) owned by Paulin and Isabelle Calvet, the 2014 Picque Caillou checks in as a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot and was made with consulting advice from Denis Dubourdieu. Deep ruby colored with a beautiful perfume of black raspberries, tobacco, dried flowers, and Asian spices, this beauty hits the palate with a medium to full-bodied texture, a rounded, seamless style, building tannin, and a great finish. It benefits from a decant and will keep for another 10-15 years..February/2018
