DESCRIPTION
One of the heralded addresses of Chassagne, Chateau de la Maltroye, has been family-owned since 1941, with 13 hectares of significant holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet. The Domaine itself was built in the 18th century on top of a 400-year-old cellar, still in use today. Wines from this address can be very limited, but we were able to get some of the outstanding 2020s, which have the potential to be some of the best of all time. While we typically go for the White wines from this address, they make some nice reds which is the case with a select few white wine-focused producers.
This is a lovely Bourgogne Rouge that we just tasted, showing expressive red fruits, liquid minerals, tar, red flowers, and a savory note. The palate is very dense and balanced with tons of dry extract and complex minerals kept in check by wonderfully integrated acidity. It is an impressive example from Chateau de la Maltroye, and with the special discount, it is an excellent buy for the category.
