IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes 2014

Deep ruby colour, blueberry, mulberry, blackberry, pepper notes combined with some vanilla and wet forest floor (20% new oak was used). Hints of smoke and tobacco. It is still very young and a bit closed, but good depth of flavour, some grippy tannins, medium+ body. All in all a good wine, but still young and overpriced at the moment. Let it rest 3-5 years and it should be more approachable by then.

Dried fruits nose. Young and dry, but tannins are even throughout palate hinting at this wines' s age worthy quality. Unripen plum on the palate at the moment, but with due time this will unfurl itself and take flight.
At Manila's Blackbird resto last night. Popped and poured. From the start you could tell it's excellent potential due to the intensity. Couldn't coax much out of the nose initially. On the palate, black fruits, very primary. Black pepper, spice and distinct olive notes. Fresh tannins coat the mouth nicely. Excellent structure. I'd say a classic Cornas that needs lots of time.
