Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Roche Calcaire 2017

Deep yellow colour. The grape variety character is showing clearly on the nose with powerful peppery aromas. The wine has still to open. The palate is ample, powerful, warming. A fair presence of tannins, typical for this grape, add to the structure. This wine is a the opposite of the easy sweet round flowery Gewurztraminer : serious and imposing.

Ripe, almost overripe notes of juicy pear abound on the nose of this wine. There also is a sense of baked and dried pear but the palate reins that in with majestic zestiness. This wine is bold, concentrated and hot with alcohol. It's a potent but dry Gewurztraminer of immense impact. The finish is dry and the lovely pear returns on the last notes.
