Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 149 2018 |
Wine Advocate 95 points - A good portion, 85.1%, of this ”Wine of the World” comes from America. In fact, the American component all comes from Napa. ”There are some great vineyards going in here,” Peter Gago informed me. ”We are buying some fruit for this, but most of it comes off our own vineyards.” By ”own vineyards,” Gago refers to the considerable land holdings of Treasury Wine Estates, which now owns iconic Napa names such as Beringer, Sterling Vineyards, and Stags’ Leap Winery.
This blends the best of California’s premium AVA’s with the finest fruit from Penfolds’ iconic Australian sites to create something altogether new and glorious. The strength of Napa Valley tannins and intense fruit is lent an Australian accent with Penfolds’ characteristic style, maintaining a balancing brightness that brings succulence and a sustained finish. This is a testament both to California terroir and the legendary Penfolds House style. We’re dying to drink what they do next.
