Decanter-Amarone, Veneto, Italy- ""Ethereal red fruit aromas joined by shades of tobacco and spice, followed by an intense palate of bright fresh fruit underscored by notes of seasoned oak and charred spice. Heady and distinctive.""
Nice deep red almost black color. The taste is strong with lots of dark berries and licorice followed by a slightly sweet aftertaste that is packed with blackberries and plums.
After harvest, the grapes are dried on straw mats for 120 days. They are pressed and fermented for 30 days, 12 of which take place as cold fermentation and are then stored in used French oak casks or the classic large Slovenian oak casks. The wine rests in the bottle for 12 months.
Aromas and flavors of dried cassis, figs and dates, fresh parsley, plum pudding, and sarsaparilla with a velvety, crisp, fruity medium body and a subtle, medium-long finish with touches of espresso bean and pickled radish with light oak flavor. An understated and pure Amarone that glides over the palate.
It goes wonderfully with aged cheeses, red meats and game.

Smooth and delicious
This was one of five Amarones I purchased. This one was excellent a bit on the sweeter side, but not overly so and very smooth.
