Weingut Robert Weil Riesling Spatlese 2015 |
The Estate Spätlese is sourced from parcels that neighbor the estate’s classified single-vineyard sites. It also includes preselection fruit from the top sites, which gives the wine an extra dimension of fruit and mineral intensity. This wine superbly displays Spätlese’s riper, richer style from late-picked fruit.
WEINGUT ROBERT WEIL
Founded in 1875, Weingut Robert Weil is one of the finest producers in the Rheingau region. Wilhelm Weil, the great-grandson of the estate’s founder, carries on the uncompromising, quality-oriented vineyard and cellar practices that have been the hallmark of this elite estate for four generations.
THE RHEINGAU REGION
The Rheingau is part of the Rhine valley, near the city of Mainz. Notable for steep, southfacing slopes in a protected valley along a climate-moderating river, this area has the ideal conditions for growing ripe, full-bodied Riesling.
RIESLING SPÄTLESE
The Estate Spätlese is made with the same exacting standards and meticulous attention to detail as the singlevineyard wines, and is designed to showcase Spätlese’s riper, richer style from late-picked fruit. The 2015 Spätlese is absolutely delicious, with a self-assured intensity, full texture and a lushness that finishes nearly dry.
THE 2015 VINTAGE A notably great vintage, 2015 was yet another year of weather extremes. Despite an intense dry spell throughout the summer, Rheingau vineyards remained brilliantly green. The Kiedrich hillsides in particular benefited from runoff water from the surrounding forest, one of the characteristics that makes them truly special. Excellent weather during the harvest allowed us to bring in fruit that was beautifully healthy and perfectly ripe.
