Tor Kenward Family Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja Vineyard 2016 |
The 2016 Tierra Roja Cabernet is likely the best that we ever made, with a pronounced additional level of sweetness and depth. This is always a wine about balance over power. This vintage continues the pattern with impeccable balance and mid-core of fruit that stands out due to the red-rocky, hillside planting.
Drive the Oakville Cross Road to the Silverado Trail, then look directly forward and up and you see Tierra Roja, a small four-acre hillside vineyard. The vineyard is dotted with big rocks, and the soil is roja (very red). The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja Vineyard is deep garnet-purple in color, with aromas of violets, cassis, wild blueberries, black cherries, dark chocolate and menthol. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated and packed with layers, with firm, grainy tannins and a long spicy finish.
