Poached strawberries and cherry, plenty of spice, a pleasant minty perfume, and a deeper earthy smell, maybe kind of like wet clay. Medium bodied, spicy and savoury, but with the succulence of red cherry and red berries, a cranberried acidity and flavour, sweep of fine-grained emery tannin, and a long cool finish. Beautiful wine. Truly the Burgundy of the Barossa.
This wine is inspired by the great wines of Chateauneuf du Pape in the Rhone Valley. The fruit is handpicked from two vineyards in the Barossa Valley, both approximately 80 years of age. It has been hand-made using old world winemaking techniques including whole bunch fermentation, warm ferment temperatures, and aging on yeast lees in French oak barrels with no fining or filtration.
