PRESENTATION
Located north of the appellation, just below the Bonnes Mares, on deep clay soils, this vine produces very supple, powerful and deep wines, quite characteristic of Chambolle wines.
Made from purchased fruit and sold under Thibault Liger-Belair’s négociant label, this
comes from a limestone-rich site in the norther part of the village. There were no whole bunches in 2014 (there are normally 30%), leaving the pure red berry finesse to express itself. Fluid, floral and subtle, with palate-caressing texture.
The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Gruenchers, which Thibault has purchased fruit from since 2005, has a slightly austere bouquet of distant wet clay scents tincturing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and is nicely structured with a little gaminess coming through the finish. This is a decent Gruenchers, though to be honest, it is not the best that I have tasted in this vintage.
A pale purple, this has an elegant, stylish, deep cherryfruit bouquet. With plenty of weight on the mid-palate, this is very sensual, respecting its Chambolle origins.

Thibault has made a fine and elegant range of 2014s, with little sign of the reduction which has sometimes prevailed here in the past. He has employed a fair proportion of whole-bunch fermentation, sending a crack team of pickers into the vineyards ahead of the rest to select the healthiest bunches. Another interest at the moment lies in finding the perfect toasting for his barrels, often choosing a minimal approach. We shall also be making a separate offer of Thibault’s brilliant 2014s from his Moulin à Vent estate.
