Tenor Syrah 2011

Only the varietals that show best in a particular vintage are chosen to be bottled. Unlike our two blended wines, the single varietals are selected on their individual characteristics and must deliver a complete and compelling wine on their own. The 2011 Syrah is big and beautifully complex, with an almost irresistible come back for more quality.A complicated variety and at the same time a very simple one. Syrah is one of the most forgiving varieties that could possibly be made, it helps you with forward aromatics that almost border on over the top. It has incredible color in most parts of the world that it is made and an almost equal amount of viscosity and texture to smooth any rough edges. In Washington, Syrah is a variety that seemingly everyone makes as it is widely planted, grows well in an assortment of conditions and shows its terrior extremely well, if winemaking is without intervention. So with such competitive conditions to make a wine in, we feel we have struck the right balance of ripe hedonistic fruit with the more primal tones of smoke, meat and earth. We chose our vineyards to be parts of a blend not to stand on their own. Each source providing just the right ingredient to compliment but not overwhelm the others, a wine to emphasize texture and depth over power.
