The 2014 Sicilia Carricante Buonora is shaping up very nicely. This white wine made with Carricante opens to floral and tropical fruit aromas that recall Viognier, Sauvignon or another semi aromatic variety. Its appearance is transparent and light with luminous golden rays. The bouquet is very expressive with honeysuckle, violets, papaya and mango. Crisp mineral definition keeps the wine focused and on track. In a blind tasting, you could mistake this white as a cool climate wine from Alto Adige or somewhere else very far away from Sicily.
Historically a grape used for its acidity and its productivity, Carricante is now probably one of the most interesting and multi-faceted varieties cultivated today. Minerality, sulphurous notes, hints of hydrocarbons, even in young vintages. It is an expression of the verticality of the wines of the Volcano. Buonora means "early," and is a wine that reflects the nature of the territory from which it comes, Mount Etna.
Intense straw yellow.
Incisive, slightly winey, fruity.
Mineral and sapid.
