• Single malt Japanese whisky produced by Mars Komagatake (fka Mars Shinshu) in Nagano, Japan • 100% unpeated malted barley • Twice distilled in Miyake copper pot stills • Aged a minimum 5 years in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, ex-port, and ex-wine casks from Mars wineries • Non-age statement • Aromas of stewed raspberries and strawberry & cream white chocolate combine with sultanas and cedar leading to a floral mid-palate that features violets and a finish of gentle white pepper and mace • Non-chill filtered; 45% ABV Mars began releasing vintage-dated expressions of Komagatake single malt in 2018, each bottling meant to express a distinct profile and the best blend of the year’s selected barrels. The Nagano distillery has always had an overarching vision, however, to codify its house style for a consistently available, non-age-statement single malt. Now, with a clear sense of the “clean and rich” character that Komagatake wishes to relay, and a store of enough alpine-aged whisky to make their vision possible, Mars has released their flagship Komagatake NAS single malt at an ABV of 45% for sessionable drinking.
