Siduri Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2016 |
The 2016 was blended from 14 different vineyard sites in the RRV ranging from cooler coastal influenced sites in western Sonoma County through the warmer Green Valley and Santa Rosa plain. All the components were fermented and aged separately in ~30% new French oak barrels and our final selections were “married” in tank after 8 months in barrel, and then returned to barrel where they finished aging.
On the nose, this wine has intense aromas of black cherries, and fresh blackberries. The fruit character plays nicely with layers of fresh cut cedar, dried lavender and a hint of bay leaf. On the palate, there is a nice dance between flavors of pomegranate, raspberries and blackberry compote, wood-ear mushrooms and toasted pine nuts. The structure of this wine is fruit driven, but is given its posture by light, silky tannins and nervy acidity. This wine is firing on all cylinders now, but will get more and more complex with age. Don’t be afraid to tuck away a few bottles for 4-5 years.
The key to our 2016 Siduri Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is in the diversity of sources. This sounds odd, given that the wine comes entirely from within the Russian River Valley AVA, but this region is large and possesses a myriad of soils, exposures, and unique terroirs that together produce a superb representation of the whole of the Russian River Valley. This 2016 offering showcases this area in all its complexity while also making for a wine that is imminently drinkable upon release.
