Shiloh Merlot Secret Reserve 2011 |
The Shiloh winery began operations in 2005 in a state-of-the art facility overlooking the breathtaking views of the Benjamin strip. Under the direction of master winemaker Amichai Luria, Shiloh's wines have already won an impressive array of national and international awards - establishing the brand as one of the most exciting and promising in Israeli wine. Luria's Secret Reserve Merlot might be mistaken for one of the legendary wines of Pomerol, but on closer consideration is a spectacular representation of Judean Hills terroir.
Mellow yet intense, it pours a deep red color with aromas of ripe raspberry, spicy redcurrant and Dutch cocoa. Over a mouthfilling texture and voluptuous tannins, intense cherry flavors lead into a long finish with rich butterscotch and vanilla from 20 months aging in French oak barrels. A wine of this quality may be best simply paired with an aged Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, but will also go beautifully with fresh pasta dishes or best-quality roasted red meats.
