'The Saumur Champigny Clos de l'Échelier is from a thin layer of white clay over Turonian limestone. This has perfect ripeness and lovely cassis and earthy aromas on the intense and elegant nose. Silky, round and elegant in the mouth, very long and juicy, with fine, ripe and crunchy, spicy tannins and lingering salinity. Great freshness and complexity. Highly elegant and refined, beautifully balanced. Long finish with cherry flavors. "This wine has the balance I am aiming for," says Thierry Germain." - Wine Advocate
The chalky Clos de l Echelier is from a very poor, chalky terroir, surrounded by a wall built 300 years ago. The wine was aged in oval-shaped, 12-hectoliter vats. On the nose, it displays with raspberry, cherry, strawberry and elegent floral flavors. The wine is pure, vibrant finishes with silky tannins and spicy lift. The lingering minerality is impressive.
