Sharing Jasper Morris’ view that, “the best red wines have a depth of fruit and a velvet texture which bears comparison with the Côte de Nuits,”, the Bachelet brothers are working more and more in Santenay.
In addition to Les Charmes Dessus, the domaine now farms a parcel in Les Prarons Dessus on the Chassagne border, and there are three small parcels across Le Chainey and Les Bras, on rocky mountain soils above the domaine’s Maranges’ vines. This Vieilles Vignes is drawn from the latter, where the vines are now over 60 years of age. This cuvée was mostly destemmed and aged with 20% new oak.
