Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel Contra Costa County 2013 |
Pair this dark, hedonistic Zinfandel with rich dishes, such as roasted or barbecued meats, sausage ragout, or pasta with rich tomato sauce. One of the oldest winegrowing regions in the state, Contra Costa County is home to ancient, gnarly vines deeply rooted in sandy loam soils. The warm days are influenced by cool delta breezes that give this area a distinct ripe-fruit profile, highlighted by pepper and chocolate spices. To create a Zinfandel representative of this unique region, we used a blend of fruit from five vineyards in Contra Costa County, combining old, head-pruned vines with newer plantings of Zinfandel to build layers of flavor and depth.
Intense, jammy nose with black berry, dried fruit and exotic spice hints. Full-bodied with moderate acidity and moderate, firm tannin – well-balanced. Dark fruit core with loads of black cherry, black berry and tarry notes. Fruit forward but very nicely structured. Moderate length – smooth with many evolving layers of complexity – seductive and spicy – charming. Drinking well and should hold for another 2 – 3 years in bottle. Great value.
