Renato Ratti Barolo Conca 2015 |
James Suckling 94 points - This is very attractive with fragrant, spicy red-cherry and strawberry aromas, as well as a gently tarry edge and a new-leather note. The palate has a beautifully ripe, plush and approachable, fleshy core of sweet red-fruit flavor. Supple finish. Drink or hold...June/2019
Vinous 93 points - The 2015 Barolo Conca is dark, rich, and ample, with all of the breadths that is typical of this south-facing site. Dark cherry, plum, sweet pipe tobacco, licorice, and menthol all run through this bold, explosive Barolo from Ratti. Flamboyant and giving, 2015 will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. The 2015 finishes with notable persistence and resonance. It is another strong effort in this range...December/2019
WINE SPECTATOR 95: Floral, berry and white pepper aromas introduce this elegant red, with flavors of cherry, orange peel,
grass, and mineral in harmony with the sleek profile. Firms up on the finish, yet remain juicy, giving a lasting impression of
sweet fruit. Best from 2022 through 2038. 120 cases imported.
WINE ADVOCATE 94+: Pietro Ratti and his family have created a truly beautiful expression from the Conca cru in La Morra.
The 2015 Barolo Conca is more austere and closed initially compared to many of its peers from nearby vineyard sites. But you
still get a sense of the profound depth and power of this WINE ADVOCATE rm vintvine. This wine has the textural richness and
fiber that is typical of this vintvine with a more structured and sophisticated inner personality. A mere 3,000 bottles were made.
Noble and generous, the glory of old Piedmont, a wine suitable for long aging, Barolo is the absolute master of the table. It conquers the palate with the conviction of strength, harmony, and fullness and holds its sway at length. The ”Conca dell’Abbazia dell’Annunziata” (The hollow of the Abbey of Our Lady of the Annunciation) is one of the oldest sub-zones of the entire Barolo District, an area already appreciated by the Benedictine Monks for its particular soil and microclimate. Growing here is the purple-red ”Anemone Coronaria” flower, a one-of-a-kind rarity in the entire Langhe region. The Barolo Marcenasco Conca is boldly full-bodied and tannic.
A great wine for important dishes, red meats on the spit or grilled, game, ”grande cuisine” white and red meat dishes, and aged cheeses.
