Henri Clerc Puligny Combettes 1er Cru 2018 |
The Premier Cru field Les Combettes is well enough located in Puligny-Montrachet, but tasted blind we could well make a bid for Meursault. You certainly shouldn't be sad about that, though! It's a great experience, but just has a richness and scent of almonds that can be a bit deceiving.
All grapes have been harvested plus sorted by hand and transported to the press with lightning speed. Winemaker Eric Germain uses traditional French oak barrels for maturation, 35% of which were perfectly dewy.
The result is a beautiful golden wine with a faint green tinge. From the glass rises a fantastic aroma of especially mango, apricot, citrus, almonds, Sichuan pepper and vanilla. The taste is on the intense but elegant side with many of the fragrance's notes in the foreground. You can hardly ask for more from the finish - it plays to the max!
