The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of tart red cherries and briary and fern scents, focused and displaying nicely integrated oak, though it loses some of its charm and complexity in the glass.
The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, peppery red berry fruit and a grippy, saline finish. A little brutish compared to the showing in barrel. Maybe it will manifest more refinement in bottle.
