Montecillo Rioja Crianza 2013 |
85% Tempranillo with 10% Garnacha and 5% Graciano. Each varietal is vinified separately in Ganimede system stainless steel tanks (a small proportion is bled off from each to help concentrate the wine) before being racked off into small, underground concrete tanks. Aged for 18 months in new and used American oak barrels with light toast levels then bottle matured for 6 months prior to release.
A vibrant, thoroughly fresh nose full of ripe red fruits with hints of warm patisserie and a subtle touch of anise, the oak is sublimely judged. Lively on the palate too with masses of juicy dark fruit character, polished tannins and a cracking finish with nods to coconut, creamy toffee and vanilla pod to complement the generous fruit.
Here's a wine that balances tradition with modernity to perfection.
