Masseria Setteporte Etna Rosso 2015 |
(95% Nerello Mascalese/5% Nerello Cappuccio) The fruit was macerated for five days before fermentation and again for 2-3 days post-fermentation with pump overs. The wine matured for eight months in French oak and six months in bottle. Masseria Setteporte is located in the town of Biancavilla on the south-western slope of the Mount Etna, Italy. The Portale family have been winemakers for generations, but it was Ferninando Portale who brought modern growing methods to the property and passed along his love for the land to his son Piero. In 2002, Piero bought additional acreage, increasing the family's holdings to 67 acres, of which 40 are planted to vines. The south facing, terraced vineyards are planted at an elevation of 2,132-2,296 feet on volcanic soils. Winemaker Giovanni Marletta has been overseeing production at Setteporte.
