Marchesi di Barolo Langhe Nebbiolo Sbirolo 2017 |
Just hitting the market now, the 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo Sbirolo is very representative of the grape. Fruit comes from the lower and less prized portions of vineyards otherwise used to make top shelf Barolo and Barbaresco.
The wine offers youthful aromas of wild berry and raspberry with some bitter almond and dried Mediterranean herb.
The wine is less austere in terms of structure (compared to other Nebbiolo-based wines) also because fruit comes from young vines. This is a clean and refreshing red with vibrant and tonic energy.

Nice find
Great balance, unusual for a Nebbiolo based wine. It maintains the fine structure of the Nebbiolo grape without the in your face tannins that take years to develop in Barolos and Barbarescos. Very drinkable without the wimpy nature of less noble grapes.
