Leese-Fitch Firehouse 2015
This vintage of the Leese-Fitch Firehouse Red shows aromatics of Bing cherry, huckleberry, sweet leather and cedar with hints of toasted dill and earth. The flavor starts with dark chocolate covered cherries, espresso, vanilla bean, blackberry syrup and tart plum. The finish shows Italian roast coffee, heavy toasted French oak, balsalmic reduction and cocoa nibs.
The 2015 vintage produced wines with a strong backbone and great depth. Low yields in the vineyards gave us the tools to make concentrated wines with rich, complex nuances. Our lead varietal is Petite Sirah from Lodi and Clarksburg, adding both warm and cool climate fruits to the blend. Syrah from Lodi and Contra Costa County adds wild nuances, with a touch of white pepper and dark black fruit. Zinfandel from Lodi and Sonoma County adds brambly fruit, softening the wine. Merlot from Clarksburg adds brightness and structure, while Mourvedre from Contra Costa County contributes cherry and dark huckleberry notes for further complexity. Finally, a splash of Clarksburg Tempranillo softens the mouthfeel.
