From the region of Lessona in northern Piedmont. Fermentations take place in stainless steel, followed by aging in barriques and tonneaux for 16 months. In its youth, shows subtle aromas (that include rose, naturally) and a firm mouthfeel; clear red fruits and a citrusy quality make for a tasty and moderately focused palate, along with a classically Italian, slightly bitter counterpoint that will develop into the "tarry" note famous in many aged Nebbiolos.
Admirable focus and stuffing for a wine that will become more supple, elegant, and expressive over the next few years. Partner this with some well-seasoned, flame-kissed lamb chops (high-temp sauteed with fresh herbs added near the end).
