Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 2018 |
This is perhaps the most floral-infused wine in the range with terrific layering that includes perfumed notes of exotic tea, clove, red and dark fruit and a whiff of sandalwood. The refined, markedly stony and wonderfully delineated flavors possess a beguiling underlying tension before culminating in a palate coating, balanced and firm finale. This is exceptionally classy and I very much like the Zen-like sense of harmony. In short, this is a knockout.
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, matured with 40% whole bunch, has an intense, feisty bouquet with hints of fresh prune permeating the red and blue fruit; precocious floral scents emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and very refined (more so than the aromatics at the moment). The multifaceted, satin-like finish lingers long in the mouth. Not the very best Les Amoureuses that I have encountered from Drouhin at this stage, but it delivers exactly what this wine should offer.
