J.M. Boillot Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 2019

The 2019 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru is noticeably deeper in colour than its peers. The nose has plenty of quite lush red berry fruit, but it misses the clarity of other Volnays included in this tasting. The palate is medium-bodied and feels more assured and complex than the aromatics at this point with a mélange of red and black fruit.

It is slightly ferrous and savory towards the persistent finish. Hopefully the nose will improve with bottle age and match the more promising palate. Tasted blind at the 2019 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy.
