Hewitson Shiraz Ned & Henry's 2016 |
This wine is named after Dean Hewitons two sons Ned and Henry. It is a full bodied Shiraz but does not overpower the palate. On the nose you can smell red and black fruits with hints of quality oak. Mourvedre adds a nice leathery and spicy lift to the wine pairing nicely with the structure of the Shiraz. It is soft on the palate with generous tannins and blueberry and chocolate flavours. It has earthy characteristics which make it a winner with red meat.
A very good friend of mine challenged me to produce a traditional, full-bodied Barossa Valley wine with the only criteria that it could be drunk young at lunch or dinner and did not stray from my fundamental wine making philosophies. French oak, fine grained tannins, balance, clear fruit expression! Those who know me well know that I just love a good challenge
