Heinrich Pinot Noir Dorflagen 2015 |
Pinot Noir has been grown in Austria for close to two hundred years and is the most successful red grape import from France. Great Austrian Pinot Noir only began to emerge in the last decade with growers like Gernot Heinrich planting the temperamental varietal in top sites. Formerly labelled as "Dorflagen," this is a young vine Pinot Noir from the gravelly Goldberg vineyard and the loamy Salzberg vineyard, both in close proximity to the Heinrich winery in Gols. Pretty, perfumed and affordable.
About the Vineyard
This Pinot Nor comes from vineyards on the East and West sides of Lake Neusiedl. From limestone-rich soild near the cool forested areas of Leithaberg (Leitha Mountains), and the sunny slopes of gravelly, sandy, loamy sediment on the southeast-facing escarpment of the Parndorfer Platte (Parndorfer Plain).
Wine Production
Organic and biodynamic vineyard cultivation. Handpicked during the first half of September followed by spontaneous fermentation and two weeks maceration on the skins followed by a gentle basket press. Matured for seven months in used 500-liter barrels.
Tasting Notes
Ruby red in color with light, fruity raspberry aromas accompanied by delicate meadow herb flavors. Charming, mouthfilling fruit with a fresh nuance of rhubarb, subtle orange zest underscored by fine sour cherry tones. Good balance with lengthy, drink-enticing acidity.
Food Pairing
Pair with fall vegetable lasagna, sesame chicken, or roasted pork belly with rhubarb compote.
