Fuligni S.J. 2013 |
The Fulignis have produced this Tuscan I.G.T. “variation on the Sangiovese theme for a few years now. S.J. originates from a blend of mostly Sangiovese grapes from own vines and of Merlot from the Bandita vineyard. Aged for some months in French oak tonneaux, it affords a slightly soft impact preserving the brilliant quality and freshness of the Sangiovese grape.
Formerly known as San Jacopo, the wine consists of approximately 80-90% Sangiovese with the remainder Merlot. Undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation & maceration sur lies for an average of 18 days. After the malolactic, it is partly aged in barriques and tonneaux of 5-hl. capacity, for a total of 6 to 12 months. Concentrated, voluptuously textured; rich, ripe, mellow, structured, packed with berry fruit, and intriguing nuances of underbrush, spices & incense.
For Fuligni, terroir is the essence of great wines, and is the cultural legacy of generations of winegrowers who work a piece land to capture its best exposures and to perfect cultivation and aging techniques just as the Fulignis have done over the last century at their estate in Montalcino.
