DESCRIPTION

Forge Cellars produced three single vineyard wines in 2015. They are all very similar in style — dry, with a big & round mouth feel, lots of alcohol, relatively low acidity, and ripe honeyed flavors. One might describe these wines as the antithesis of a delicate, crystalline, lightly sweet Mosel Riesling. To many tasters, I think, these Forge Wines may not seem like Riesling at all, but will suggest Chardonnay. One cannot deny the richness and originality of these offerings, however, even if your preferences lie elsewhere. Try them and see what you think.

Like the other wines, it is quite rich. It is more sprightly and better balanced though, and has an added measure of complexity. Sip this wine with cheeses, or serve it with richer foods.

Dark golden straw in color, the near buttery aromas feature dried apricot, peach, citrus, honey, and a hint of acetic acid. Full bodied, dry, very mouth filling, with a delicate acid tang, the Caywood is well balanced on the soft side of the spectrum. Flavors of dried apricot, peach, citrus, a light green/herbal note, vanilla wafers, and shalestone mineral have a somewhat exotic quality. The finish is broad, balanced, with a bit of spice and a petite acid tang. Length is very good. July 2017
