Notes from the Winemaker: A blend of grapes from North Canyon and Fiddlestix vineyards, this bottling shows hickory smoke, cherry pie and floral aromas on the nose. The palate offers tart blackberry, cranberry, clove and vanilla flavors, with a smoky, roasted pork touch. Balanced, with tomato leaf aromas and good cut to the pomegranate and dried cherry flavors. The spicy finish shows accents of forest floor. Drink now through 2019. 60,000 cases made.
Just as a song’s lyrics give meaning to its melody, the vineyard gives unique character to a wine. Etude has handcrafted its celebrated Pinot Noir from the Carneros region for over 30 years and is now taking its steadfast study of the varietal to the famed Santa Barbara Country appellation. Influenced by the minimal-intervention philosophy of its parent winery, Lyric is an authentic expression of Santa Barbara that is true to its classic Pinot Noir characteristics.
WINEMAKING
Etude’s winemaking philosophy remains steadfast with this Santa Barbara Pinot Noir and the wine was crafted with very minimal winemaking intervention in order to reflect the unique terroir of North Canyon and Fiddlestix Vineyards. Lyric undergoes open-top fermentation with extended time on the skins and is then aged for 11 months in French oak barrels.
