Ernesto Catena Malbec Siesta En El Tahuantinsuyu 2013 |
The 2013 Siesta Malbec was sourced from their estate vineyard in Vista Flores. It matured for 14-16 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The nose is very spicy and oaky, dominated by tones of cinnamon and vanilla. The fruit is in the background and there are also violets, but the oak need to be less prevalent. The palate gives a sweet sensation, perhaps a combination of the excess oak and the glycerin from the alcohol.
Deep colored, with complex aromas in which one finds the plum and violet typical of the varietal, coupled with a hint of fig jam, in a delightful company of vanilla, chocolate, and smoky subtlety courtesy of its time in oak barrels. In the mouth it's 'round', completely balanced, unctuous with silky tannins and great lingering finish. Alcohol 13.8%.
