EMMOLO MERLOT 2019

Made by Jenny Wagner of the family behind Caymus, Emmolo is an off-shoot brand making merlot, sauvignon blanc and sparkling. It has a very lifted, almost piquant and pleasant nose of cranberry, raspberry, leafiness and mint with subtle peppery spice and oak vanillin in the background.

It is medium weight, elegant and smooth yet a touch tart-edged and sweet at the same time. The pleasant green streak carries on to the finish. The focus and length are excellent. Thank goodness it is not just another jammy, chocolaty merlot.
