For many vintners 2016 was a disaster year: frost, hail, drought interspersed with long periods of rain etc. The amount of harvested grapes was often less than 50% of normal.
In order to meet the worst-affected winegrowers, the wine authorities allowed in very exceptional cases that grapes could also be bought elsewhere. This is how Beaujolais farmers ended up in the Languedoc, Burgundy in Bordeaux and more of that kind of craziness.
Our Jean Montanet stayed closer to home and bought grapes in the Mâcon region and the Beaujolais, and made wines on the spot according to his insights. From the far north of Burgundy to the far south. The Montanets found a challenge, making the need a virtue.
Who did they buy the grapes from? They never tell you that, there are the wildest rumors. Bio, that in any case.
It is of course no wonder, with the decades of experience of the Montanets in making natural wine, that they also make something delicious under these new appellations.
Where the Vezalays have some maturation, the Macons are made more on their freshness, their youth
This Macon Villages, from chardonnay of 35 year old sticks, is therefore pure, clear and fresh. Smell of citrus fruit, peach and flowers. Very energetic and elegant wine as an aperitif or with everything from the sea.
