Cuvee Special Brut, Sektkellerei Christian Madl |
This vintage blend of 53% Chardonnay and 47% Pinot Noir is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and large, used barrels. Smoky spice, some citrus notes and fresh herbs, white bread, chalky, with ripe, fine-pearly mousseux, creamy, crunchy & invigorating, with great substance. A beautiful wine to pair with sushi or pork belly.
Madl is a family winery, started in 1990, has been run by Christian Madl since 2003. The estate is small, under 3.5 hectares, in the village of Schrattenberg, in an area called Poysdorf, on the Czechoslovakian border. It’s as far north in the Weinviertel as you can get. The climate here is much cooler than the Danube river area, perfect for making sparkling wine. Prior to returning home in ’03, Christian worked at Champagne Sanger in Avize.
