True Limoncello can only be obtained from the infusion of natural lemon peels, without the addition of artificial flavors and colors. It is an excellent post-meal digestive, oftentimes served cold in a chilled shot glass. Limoncello however, is ideal mixed in cocktails and long drinks, making this versatile beverage perfect for any occasion.Due to the traditional production method of Costa del Sole, some natural oils may collect in the neck of the bottle. Shake well before serving.Limoncello dates back to the Middle Ages. Italian monks would give pilgrims flasks containing lemon peels soaking in alcohol. Navigators and sailors would also bring this lemon infused beverages with them on journeys. Lemon peels were believed to prevent infection and promote digestive health. Even today Limoncello is commonly served in fine Italian restaurants as a chilled digestif either neat, mixed with coffee, or over ice cream. Costa del Sole Limoncello comes from Salerno on the Amalfi Peninsula south of Naples. Lemons have grown here for centuries and the region is world famous for its artisan lemon spirits. Lemons from this region are more aromatic and have thicker peels, which makes for better limoncello. This region is recognized as a prestigious and distinct agricultural region or PGI like the appellation of a fine wine. Their passion for craftsmanship and centuries of traditional, local farms set Costa del Sole Limoncello above the typical limoncello. It contains an abundance of vitamin C and has a delicious sweet taste. Due to the traditional production method of Costa del Sole, some natural oils may collect in the neck of the bottle. Shake well before serving.
