DESCRIPTION

This has a grown-up, elegant feel to it. Still quite tight at this stage and not showy in anyway. Oak is quite pronounced, but there is lots of good, deep, fine fruit too. Very poised, a savoury note - this may take a moment to unravel, but looks good for a sophisticated, fun future. 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Only 45% New Oak.

In this vintage where optical sorting was used for the first time at the property - to further refine the selection of the grapes before vinification by sorting out stems and the berries without perfect ripeness - Ormes de Pez 2015 is a singular Saint-Estèphe. The wine shows an intense colour, almost like ink.

The nose is expressive - although dense and not revealing all its complete aromatic potential at this stage - and an ample black fruit and beautiful aromatic freshness can be detected. On the palate, the wine rests on its solid tannic framework, already well integrated into the rich fruit, and with a velvety sensation on the finish.

The wine has weight and length. The technical and human choices helped make this wine a very successful Saint-Estèphe with an obviously great aging potential. Note that this vintage returns to a blend using Merlot as a predominant grape variety, which the estate has not used for over 15 years. Indeed, the 2015 Ormes de Pez has 49% Merlot and 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
