"Duresses" comes from the name Daraises, which in the Mâconnais is still used to refer to the sides of trucks. It comes from the Gaelic word doratia, or movable pasture fence or fence gate. One could imagine that, at the bottom of the Bourdon hills, perhaps there were wooden livestock pens that could have given their name to these vineyards.
The 2015 Monthélie 1er Cru Les Duresses has a pleasant, green apple and light peach-scented bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is fresh and leesy on the entry with notes of pink grapefruit and melon with an attractive apricot-tinged finish.
